About Joyful Exhale
Joyful Exhale helps you understand a contemplative practice honestly — what it is, where it comes from, what it will ask of you, and what can go wrong — and then find a teacher whose credentials are stated plainly and checked by a human.
What we do
The contemplative landscape is fragmented and opaque. Yoga Alliance owns yoga teachers. IAYT owns yoga therapists. SDI owns spiritual directors. Each is a silo — and if you don't know the vocabulary of what you're looking for, none of them can help you.
Joyful Exhale is the place where seekers come to understand a practice first — honestly, with sourced information about benefits and risks — before deciding whether and how to pursue it.
Our three commitments
- We tell you what can go wrong. Every practice page states the risks and who should be careful, sourced to research where research exists.
- We never rate a teacher. We state what we verified, what they told us, and what we don't know.
- Paid placement is always labelled and never affects relevance.
Why we exist
Research shows that 22% of regular meditators report unpleasant meditation-related experiences, and 13% report effects severe enough to be classed moderate-to-extremely severe. Yet no directory, app, or teacher registry surfaces this information.
We believe honest information about contemplative practice is a public good — not a liability.
